Land, Life & Labor Acknowledgment:
During COVID-19, many of us are gathering virtually from many places and I want to acknowledge the ancestral homelands and traditional territories of Indigenous peoples who have been here since time immemorial. I want to recognize that we must continue to build our solidarity and kinship with Native peoples across the Americas and across the globe.
Jumpstart Seattle is an affiliate site of the University of Washington, which acknowledges the Coast Salish peoples of this land, the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations. I also recognize the Duwamish Tribe, whom are the First Peoples of the land that I work, live, and serve on, and remain unacknowledged by the federal, state, and local governments. https://www.realrentduwamish.org/.
I also acknowledge that this country would not exist if it wasn’t for the free, enslaved labor of African/Black people. I honor the legacy of the African diaspora and Black life, knowledge and skills stolen due to violence and white supremacy. While the movement for justice and liberation is building and we are witnessing the power of the people, many are still being met with violence and even being killed. Black Lives Matter. https://blacklivesseattle.org/
This Land, Life & Labor acknowledgment is a combination of the work of Iisaaksiichaa Ross Braine, Director of wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House, and SpeakOut Summer Institute.
