Our group has an excellent trip to the Volcano Conference at Pack National Forrest. Lena and Lars give great talks on their current research, and wonderfully represent the lab’s enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research! Later, we also put our hiking skills to the test with good results.

Congrats to Dr. Calvin Jon Antolin Leonen who heads off to New York City to continue his adventures in chromatin regulation with the Funabiki Lab of Chromosome Biology at Rockefeller University.
February 2019
We bid adieu to Sam Whedon, who starts his postdoc in the Cole Labs in Harvard Medical School in March. Calvin brought a cake from 85degrees, and College Inn supplied the beer, whiskey and nachos.
Nice surprise here; our paper in Journal of Biological Chemistry 2014 (Dhall et al.) was cited as a milestone in chromatin-related topics published in the journal since the early 1970’s!

Our collaborative effort with the Ong and Zheng labs at UW Pharmacology appears in Cell. Great job in establishing conditions for large-scale nucleosome preps for COMPASS enzymology– Calvin (2nd year at UW Chemistry and the Molecular Biophysics Training Program) and Abhinav (post-doctoral scholar at Boston Children’s and Harvard Medical School).

Dr. Paul Lawrence heads to his new position as Assistant Professor in Physical Sciences at Keystone College in PA. The second person from our lab (Aurea Chu claims 1st place) to start an independent teaching career. Here is what BYU had to say about their favorite graduate:
Congratulations to our newest philosopher, Dr. Samuel David Whedon. Onwards and upwards, Sam! Calvin ups the celebratory cake game in our lab.
Dr. Jianming Kang joins the Chatterjee-Klevit Labs as a joint postdoctoral associate in Chemical Biology. Jianming obtained his Ph.D. from Washington State University with our good friend and powerful bio-organic chemist Professor Ming Xian. Our BRCA1-BARD1 research program is now stronger than ever. Welcome Jianming!

We welcome new graduate students, Marissa Parker (research with Jared Lewis, U Chicago) and Nina Michael (research with Virginia Cornish, Columbia) to the lab. Its a great time to be a Chemical Biologist!
