Our Positions

Each of our residence halls/apartment communities are managed by full-time staff who all possess a breadth of experiences within and outside of Residential Life.  Community Managers share  many similar day-to-day responsibilities across position types, but each position type has supervisory and operational nuances in their overall workload.

Associate Hall Director

An Associate Hall Director (AHD) is a live-on position that supports the development and administration of programs in our three largest residence halls: Maple, McCarty and McMahon.  An AHD reports directly to the Resident Director of that community, but both the AHD and the RD work collaboratively to lead their student leader team and manage the building.  An AHD typically supervises 6-8 Student Leaders on a larger team and directly advises the Hall Council in their building.  AHDs do not serve in an on-call capacity.

Resident Director

A Resident Director (RDs) is a live-on position that manages the development and administration within a residence all or apartment community.  RDs lead a staff of 5-17 undergraduate student leaders and an undergraduate Assistance Resident Director.   An RD reports directly to an Area Director, but maintains a high level of autonomy in their work while also receiving support from various other areas of our unit.  RDs serve in an on-call rotation through the calendar year to respond to incidents and emergencies as they occur for a residential population of approximately 10,000 students.

Area Director

An Area Director is a live-on position that supervises the development and administration of the program in a collection of communities under their purview to ensure that staff have the necessary training and resources to execute a comprehensive residential life program for the area.  An Area Director directly supervises two Resident Directors and 4-8 student leaders that work within the Area Director’s building, and supports the supervision of 10-18 student leaders in their area.  Area Directors serve in the Residential Life management on-call rotation.

Program Supervisor (Family Housing)

The Program Supervisor of Family Housing is a live-off position that oversees the development and administration of the Residential Life program, customer service, and administrative operations within Blakely and Laurel Villages. The Program Supervisor leads a staff of up to 4 Community Assistants and 1-3 additional staff (Student Office Assistants/Desk Service Representatives). The Program Supervisor reports directly to an Area Director, but has a high level of autonomy in supporting the needs of our Family Housing population. The Program Supervisor does not serve in an on-call rotation.

Specialist positions manage unique functional areas within our unit that support residential student development and sense of belonging–many of our Specialist positions work closely with Community Managers and Support Staff to further the goals of the area under the Specialist’s purview. Specialists also develop strong relationships with campus partners who have a stake in the relevant residential life program.

Specialist for Conduct & Incident Response

The Specialist for Conduct & Incident Response is a live-off position that manages the Student Conduct and Incident Response program within our unit. The Specialist facilitates, reviews, and delegates conduct cases amongst Residential Life full-time staff, adjudicates administrative conduct hearings and manages the formal hearing process, and serves as a resource for students involved in disciplinary procedures. Records management, process review and evaluation, and facilitating conduct and incident response trainings for full-time Residential Life staff and Resident Advisers are critical responsibilities of the Specialist role. The Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Director for Student Care & Conduct and does not serve in an on-call capacity.

Specialist for Student Care

The Specialist for Student Care is a live-on position that responds to resident crisis cases by providing diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention, mobilization of internal and external resources, establishing appropriate stabilization and disposition of each case and referral for follow-up care. There are two Specialist for Student care positions in are unit that report directly to the Assistant Director for Student Care & Conduct and serves in a weekly on-call rotation when classes are in session.

Specialist for Student Leadership & Equity

The Specialist for Student Leadership and Equity is a live-off position that manages the Residence Education Program within our unit, supervising a staff of two office assistants for the Madrona Leadership Programming Office, and the Residence Education Programming (REP) team consisting of 1 Assistant Residence Education Specialist and 6 Programming team members who implement campus-wide programming surrounding topics of academic success, social justice, and wellness. The Specialist also leads student-focused equity initiatives and oversees the Living Learning Community program. The Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Director for North Campus & Diversity Initiatives and does not serve in an on-call capacity.

Specialist for Leadership & Programming

The Specialist for Leadership & Programming is a live-off position that manages student leadership development initiatives and activities within our unit. The Specialist directly advises/supervises two student leadership groups: the Residential Community Association (RCSA) and the Residential Programming Board (RPB), and provides consultation to Community Managers and Assistant Resident Directors regarding the development of community hall councils. The Specialist also manages the DAWGS Crew program that organizes over 500 student volunteers responsible for helping residents move into the residence halls and apartments in Autumn. The Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Director for Apartments & Engagement Initiatives and does not serve in an on-call capacity.

Specialist for Training & Selection

The Specialist for Training & Selection is a live-off position that manages numerous processes around the Student Leader Experience. This role is responsible for the recruitment and selection of our Student Leaders, planning and implementing our annual Autumn Student Leader Training as well as in-service trainings throughout the year and co-managing our Performance Management process for Student Leaders. Residential Life team members can expect to work with this role if they serve on either the Student Leader Selection or Training Committees or through regular consultation around staffing/training/performance needs. The Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Director for West Campus and does not serve in an on-call capacity.

Program Coordinator for Amenities

The Program Coordinator for Amenities is a live-off position that manages the financial processes of the Amenities team, also known as Perks and Recreation. The PC directly supervises one student coordinator that oversees Frost Bite, on-campus ice cream shop.

Program Coordinator for Care & Conduct

The Program Coordinator for Care & Conduct is a live-off position that provides support to the Conduct and Care team and the Residential Life team as a whole. This position works directly with members of the RLT team as well as Student leaders and residents engaging in the conduct process. The Program Coordinator also serves as a point for Compliance and eligibility requirements for residents living in HFS regarding accommodations and credit-load requirements. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director for Student Care & Conduct and does not serve in an on-call capacity.
