Living On Policies

What is your domestic partnership policy for live-on staff?

Live-on staff (Associate Hall Directors, Resident Directors, Area Directors & Care Specialists) may have a domestic partner, dependent children, family member, or one non-partner adult reside with them in the UW-provided apartment. A background check is required of others residing in the live-on staff’s apartment. For more information about HFS’ domestic partnership policy, please refer to the Live-In Professional Staff Agreement.

What is the pet policy for live-on staff?

Live-on staff may be allowed up to two approved animals plus a fish tank. The following animals may be permitted: birds, fish, and small caged animals. For large pets, live-on staff may be allowed one cat or one dog. For more information about HFS’ pet policy, please refer to the Live-In Professional Staff Agreement.

Are live-on staff compensated with a dining plan?

HFS does not offer a meal plan for live-on staff, but all live-on staff apartments come with a full sized kitchen. Staff may place money on their Husky Card Account, which allows them to dine and make purchases at a 10% discounted rate on campus.

If I am offered a position, is there any reimbursement for moving expenses?

For full-time staff who are relocating to Seattle for employment at the UW, the UW will reimburse up to $2,000 for moving expenses. This is subject to prior approval and documentation. Some expenses are non-allowable or taxable.

Are live-on staff compensated for parking on campus?

HFS does not provide parking for live-on staff. Parking may be purchased and is generally near the building in which the live-on staff resides and not in an assigned space. Commuter Services provides an additional pass for a scooter or moped with the purchase of a vehicular annual permit. Please refer to UW Transportation Services parking rates page for the most up-to-date information on parking rates and products.

All UW employees are provided a fully subsidized U-PASS, which grants access to the robust public transportation network without charge within the Seattle and tri-county area.
