Wet Beds

This project was originally proposed by a group of students as part of a Native Plant Propagation class, in Spring 2003. These students include Caren Crandell (now a restoration professor at UW!), Crystal Elliott, Kevin Kline, Christer Lundstrom, and Rodney Pond (now a frequent restoration instructor at UW Botanic Gardens). We currently have 4 wet beds at the nursery. Wet beds are water-saving and cost effective, and they also allow us to acclimate our plants to environmental conditions similar to that of their future outplanting sites.

In Fall 2021, one of our amazing student interns, Anna Gilmore, wrote an updated informational guide on wet beds. This guide contains a background on wet beds and their uses, how to construct one, recommended species, and more! Check out Anna’s guide here: SER-UW Nursery Wet Beds and Their Use
