Utilizing Coppice Cuttings to Implement Self-Sustaining Bio-Fences for Pest Management

Wyatt Mojo – Winter 2024

The SER-UW Nursery faces substantial plant loss due to invasive Eastern cottontails, and a bio-fence made of red-osier dogwood cuttings from our coppice garden could be an affordable and sustainable method of pest management in our irrigation and coppice bed areas. This project describes proper protocol for maintaining and promoting a healthy coppice garden that will produce the largest sum of cuttings per year and proposes procedures for implementing and maintaining bio-fences at the nursery.
