The HQSC is committed to publicizing the efforts and cataloging the contributions of UW Medicine trainees to improve the safety, quality, and value of care delivered across our hospitals.
We recognize and celebrate resident and fellow accomplishments through our internal publication, the annual HOUSE journal.
You may also browse the archives of our quarterly BRICK newsletter, now retired.
HOUSE is our internal publication showcasing completed improvement work undertaken by our dedicated trainees and talented faculty. This glossy publication is produced once a year and is widely available to UW Medicine faculty, administrators, and housestaff. It is protected by quality improvement confidentiality and privilege clauses set forth by UW Medicine.

BRICK was the companion newsletter to our annual internal journal, HOUSE. BRICK contained information about ongoing improvement-related activity in a bite-sized, graphically-rich format. While HOUSE is meant to showcase completed project work, BRICK was intended to be a more relaxed forum and resource for the community. BRICK was a building block of HOUSE and was released quarterly.
BRICK features:
- Brief updates on original projects
- Profiles of improvement champions
- Tips on conducting improvement work
- Vignettes on especially impactful safety incident reports
