The University of Washington Health Services Master of Science (M.S.) program is part of the UW School of Public Health, which consistently ranks among the best in the United States. Biostatistics

Earn a Master of Science in Biostatistics to prepare for careers such as biostatistician, research scientist, or data analyst.

Epidemiology (Clinical Research Track)

Chiefly intended for professionals who have already completed clinical training and who plan to conduct research with patients in health care settings as a significant part of their future career, such as clinical trials on the effectiveness and safety of new treatments, studies of new tools for diagnosis or for monitoring disease course, and studies of factors that influence the outcome of illness.

Genetic Epidemiology

The Master of Science degree offers advanced training in Genetic Epidemiology with an emphasis on applied research skills to understand the etiology and prevention of complex diseases with genetic and environmental components. Completion of this degree prepares graduates for careers in academic institutions, health care delivery systems, public health departments, governmental agencies, and the private sector, particularly biotechnology. 

Certificate in Applied Biostatistics

In this three-course certificate program, you’ll learn how to employ statistical concepts to answer important scientific questions. Using R software, we’ll apply different techniques for analyzing data sets from scientific and medical research. You’ll develop the ability to process, interpret and report the results of statistical analyses common in biomedical research.

Global Health Certificate for Residents and Fellows

Medical residents and clinical fellows have a myriad of opportunities to participate in global health activities at the UW. Here you will find information about UW Medicine department pathways, international clinical training and funding opportunities, and more.

Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health

This pathway is designed to a offer coherent course of study for students interested in MCH content and tools to augment their primary training in other areas of Public Health (e.g., in International Health) and in allied fields such as Nursing, Social Work, Special Education, Public Affairs, Psychology and Medicine. 

UW Department of Pediatrics

Bioethics

The Pediatric Bioethics Fellowship Program is a two-year program that trains clinicians in Bioethics with a focus on pediatric issues in the clinical and research arenas. The goal of the fellowship is to prepare fellows for academic careers with an emphasis on scholarship in Pediatric Bioethics. Fellows are expected to enroll in the Bioethics Master’s Degree Program, conduct an independent research project, and participate in clinical Bioethics consultations.

Child Health Equity Research

The Child Health Equity Research Program for Post-doctoral Trainees (CHERPP-T) at the University of Washington School of Medicine (UW) is a mentored, research project-based training program in health equity research that provides trainees with didactic training in rigorous health services and clinical research methodologies, and in community-partnered approaches to research, experiential research training, career development, and a long-term network of mentors, collaborators, and partners for child health equity research.

Since July 2009, the UW Department of Pediatrics and Seattle Children’s Hospital have offered a two-year postdoctoral Health Services and Quality of Care Research Fellowship. Through this fellowship, fellows learn state-of-the art health services and quality improvement research methodologies with close mentorship from outstanding, experienced faculty in the UW Department of Pediatrics, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Seattle Children’s Research Institute.

Global Health Track

The Global Health Track within the University of Washington (UW) Pediatric fellowship training programs provides trainees with exposure to global health topics and scholarly activity mentorship to prepare graduates for an academic career with an emphasis in global health.
