Welcome to another rendition of: Database Spotlight. A few times a month we highlight resources that you have access to via the UW Tacoma Library, and tell you a bit about them. Over time, we hope this helps build your repertoire of databases that you use regularly when you are doing your research projects! We know that research is often a non-linear process of trial, error, success, and serendipity, so we hope this is useful to you all. Also remember, you can always come to our research help desk in SNO for one-on-one research help.
Interested in sports, kinesiology, or sports medicine? This database is for you! SPORTDiscus “includes millions of records from leading sports medicine journals, books, dissertations and more. Subjects covered include nutrition, physical therapy, occupational health, exercise physiology and kinesiology” (Quote borrowed from vendor description). Even Hendrix — who likes basketball — could benefit from reading some of the peer reviewed articles found in this database! The database indexes over 2.5 million records and has coverage dating back to 1892. So: if you are in healthcare, or thinking about becoming a physical therapist, or following a pre-Health trajectory at UW Tacoma? Or you are just interested in sports? Check this database out!
For Access:
You can find the link to SPORTDiscus in the A-Z Databases list on the UW Tacoma Library website; on the right hand side, you’ll see new and trial databases! As always, please contact us with any questions about this and any other databases!
