Black Lives Matter Collective Storytelling Project

collage of images from BLM protests including a young boy with his fist raised, groups of people in masks holding signs, and murals of black women who have lost their lives to police violence.

“It has been our privilege to see how the power of creative expression can be an opportunity for transformation and liberation.”

This is how professors Sonia De La Cruz and Tanya Grace Velasquez end their introductory note to the collaborative, cross-course student project, Black Lives Matter Collective Storytelling Project. This project, a collaboration between the students of TSOC 265: Race and Ethnicity in the United States and TCOM 347: Television Criticism and Application, draws from critical race theory, storytelling strategies and inclusive media practices that provide students the tools to reflect on their understanding and experiences about race, racism, and racial justice, particularly as it pertains to Black Lives.

In this project you will discover original video projects, meditations on music, poetry, essays, and photos all stitched together into six thematic sections: Breaking Silences, Raising my Voice, Bearing Witness, Beyond Borders, Finding my Place, and Imagining a Better Future.
