Your Voice in the Library: Campus Meaningful Reads

We are excited to relaunch Campus Meaningful Reads for Spring Quarter 2022!

Campus Meaningful Reads is a UW Tacoma Library program modeled after an annual faculty recognition event through the University of Arkansas Libraries which seeks to reflect the diverse and rich set of experiences that illustrate how reading inspires introspection, a desire to pursue new interests, or even new directions in life. To honor UW Tacoma’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the Library invites students, staff, and faculty to participate by sharing their perspectives. In this way, we can build campus community and strengthen our campus identity through the texts that are contributed. Inviting everyone to share texts that connect to their achievement and joy in higher education can serve to highlight intersecting identities and foster inclusion.  We value your voice and experiences, and we want to hear about what inspires and motivates you! 

Goals

The goals of Campus Meaningful Reads are as follows:

  • To build a UW Tacoma collection that highlights the texts — books, articles, or creative writings — that have been meaningful to members of our campus community.  
  • To grow spaces where students see their voices represented next to staff and faculty.
  • To understand how scholarship and creative outputs have impacted us in our lives.

Process

In the coming weeks, we will begin our call for submissions. Here’s what you can expect the process to look like:

  • The UW Tacoma Library will send out an initial call for participation, as well as some reminders, via uwtline, the UW Tacoma Library blog, and our social media. 
  • We will ask that participants share a text (books, articles, poems, short stories, etc.) that has influenced them personally and to provide us with a short paragraph about why that text has been meaningful.
  • These submissions will be published on the UW Tacoma Library’s blog post this summer. 
  • The UW Tacoma Library will purchase suggested texts as the budget and licensing restrictions allow.
  • Whenever possible, the UW Tacoma Library will create displays highlighting the texts that have impacted our community.
