Cover of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?Eric Carle’s career began as a graphic artist, but his true calling began with his first book collaboration with Bill Martin, Jr. on Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? He was an author and illustrator of more than 70 children’s books, most of which feature subjects such as animals, children, and nature. His works are easily recognized by his artwork where he employed a collage technique that used brightly-colored tissue paper to create layers which would become well-known characters like The Grouchy Ladybug. Carle’s books have sold hundreds of millions of copies and have been translated into many different languages. For example, The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been translated into more than 70 different languages!
