Bio:
Dr. C. Alina Cansler is an associate professor at the University of Montana. Her research is focused on understanding the effects of disturbance and climate change on ecosystems in western North America. Her ongoing and previous research has addressed:
- Quantifying fire spatial patterns using remote sensing
- Post-fire succession in mixed-conifer forests
- Post-fire tree mortality in relation to injury, taxa, and other stressors
- Disturbance in high-elevation woodlands
- Managing forest ecosystems for resilience under climate change
Alina is a certified Fire Ecologist with the Association for Fire Ecology. She received her PhD from the University of Washington in 2015, and her MS from the same institution in 2011, studying under the direction of Dr. Donald McKenzie in the Fire and Mountain Ecology Lab. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the USFS Missoula Fire Science Lab, in Missoula, MT from 2017-2019, working closely with Dr. Sharon Hood. Before her academic career, she worked for the National Park Service Fire Effects program in the Colorado Plateau and Columbia River Basin, leading crews monitoring the effects of prescribed fire.
