Internship Opportunity with the City of Kent

The City of Kent, WA is currently seeking Civil, Environmental, and Transportation Engineering interns to work in its Public Works Engineering Division. Interns will assist city staff with transportation related projects:

Time Commitment and Wages:

This part time position requires 20 hours per week, with work performed in the office between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours of work are flexible based on the student’s current and future class schedule, but cannot exceed the 20 hour limit. Wage is $15-$20 per hour DOE. This position is anticipated to last up to 8 months.

Duties:

Duties performed will include assisting Project Engineers and Planners. The intern will also assist in the development of long and short range transportation planning projects, data collection, field measurements and interaction with the public. The intern may also assist with the development of cost estimates, contracts, and specifications.

 

Requirements:

Preferred candidates are recent graduates, students enrolled in a Master’s program, or students currently working toward a degree or certification in urban planning, transportation engineering, public administration, or a closely related field with Senior class standing.

  • Basic understanding of urban planning and transportation planning and operations, including pedestrian, bicycle, automobile, and transit; transportation planning context.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Good computer skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to prepare quality written reports
  • Ability to generate graphical products including presentations, diagrams, and maps
  • Ability to type on keyboard, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and occasionally lift or move up to 30 lbs.
  • Must have a current and valid Driver’s License and pass a pre-employment driver’s record check.
