Mental Health Resources

Now is a stressful time for many and UW has many resources available to you.

  • UW Counseling Center
    • The UW Counseling Center has merged with Hall Health Mental Health units to provide mental health resources to the UW campus community. Please take a look at their website to see all of the resources available to you. They are also providing tips with how to deal with stress related to the COVID-19 outbreak and is offering their services remotely. The Counseling Center is a free, confidential resource for students and offers professional services for stress management, coping strategies, and ways to manage conditions like anxiety and depression. You can make an appointment by calling 206-543-1240.
  • Husky Health and Well-Being
    • Husky Health and Well-Being offers a wide range of health and wellness services, from exceptional medical care and counseling services to recreation classes, safety resources, peer advocates, trainings and more. Their goal is to support health, safety, and well-being so you can make the most of your UW experience.
  • CareLink
    • CareLink is a free, confidential helpline for UW employees (mainly faculty and staff) that is staffed by licensed professionals who can talk with you about how to navigate difficult life situations and help with stress management. They can also refer callers to one of their affiliated therapists for in-person counseling sessions. You can reach a representative 24/7 by calling 866-598-3978.

FE Exam (BSCE/BSENVE Juniors and Seniors)

Your BSCE and BSENVE junior year 300-level curriculum is set up to prepare you to take the FE Exam, which in turn provides you with your Engineer in Training License (EIT).  The majority of CEE majors will take the FE Exam (Civil or Environmental) in the summer after the Junior year. Information can be found here.

  • Please note that the FE Exam schedule may be impacted by COVID19. It is our recommendation that you create an account and try to sign up to take the FE exam. If there are delays, you will be informed of them during the registration process.

Letters of Recommendation (BSCE/BSENVE Juniors and Seniors)

Whether you are applying to graduate school or for a full-time job after graduation, you will need letters of recommendation from CEE Faculty. We recommend choosing a few faculty members, either who you’ve taken classes with or who are in your area of focus, to reach out to. They are expecting to hear from you so do this sooner rather than later.  When you contact them, make sure you are providing them with enough information (who you are, your goals, next steps, etc.) that they can write you a personal letter.

Career Center @ Engineering

The “Career Center @ Engineering,” we understand that the recent disruptions to the regular rhythms of school (and life) can be unsettling. Despite the challenges, we’re still working hard to assist with your professional development. Below are the specific ways in which we will be working to support you in the upcoming weeks ahead. Please contact us at ENGRHIRE@uw.edu if you have any questions, and know that we are available to help you through this unprecedented period:

  1. VIRTUAL/PHONE APPOINTMENTS: We will continue to provide career coaching appointments through Zoom/phone. From freshmen to Ph.Ds, several students engaged us last week regarding resume updates, mock interviews, and general search strategies, so please feel free to schedule an appointment through Handshake.
  2. COVER LETTER & RESUME REVIEWS: In lieu of our walk-in hours, we will be expanding our capability to offer feedback on cover letters & resumes within 24 hours; students may e-mail those materials to ENGRHIRE@uw.edu for review.
  3. ON-DEMAND CONTENT & ONLINE WORKSHOPS: All of the UW career services offices are coordinating to share content & services in this complicated time. Keep an eye on Handshake over the next couple weeks for various events where you can interact live with presenters on various topics. Also, check the “Resources” section of your Handshake account, or peruse external products like Candid Career or Vault Guides.
  4. EMPLOYER OUTREACH: Recruiting (without an on-campus presence) for many companies still continues at different paces. For those looking for internships & full-time work, we will be proactively reaching out to employers and recruiters with resume books. If you haven’t done so lately, now’s a great chance to update your resume, portfolio, and LinkedIn profile.
  5. EMPLOYER INFO SESSIONS: We are actively working with employers on setting up virtual info sessions and career fairs; we will keep you posted when such events are finalized.
