Approach

Integrity and Excellence. We apply the highest scientific and ethical standards to our work and use the most appropriate approaches to further knowledge with practical value for public health. We are committed to reporting findings from our research with clarity and accuracy and sharing our knowledge and discoveries. We prioritize treating team members, collaborators, and research participants with respect. We promote the use of effective and best practice interventions and policies.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We value diverse beliefs, experiences, and traditions. We strive to include people from a wide variety of backgrounds in our research projects, training programs, staff and faculty, and partnerships.  We pursue goals of prevention, harm reduction, health promotion, and treatment while recognizing and prioritizing the need to address historical and systemic health disparities. We recognize the critical need for our research to be informed by and meet the needs of diverse communities.

Community and Collaboration. We work with community and government agencies, colleges, universities, healthcare providers, and other organizations to conduct research and translate research findings into practice. We seek to share our research and our expertise widely with all who may benefit.

Training and mentorship. We support students, fellows, and early career faculty and staff by providing mentoring and training in research and practice, career development opportunities, and a highly collegial and collaborative environment.
