Dear Wellness Community,

I hope all of you are enjoying Seattle summer and soaking up the sun! In spite of suffering (without AC) on some of these hot hot days, it’s been fun to be able to swim a lot. I would highly recommend a sunset dip at Green Lake for those of you who haven’t had one yet!

There is plenty of good weather to be had, but I can also feel the swing into fall rapidly approaching, so make sure you keep chipping away at your summer bucket list. I like to put some fun things on my to-do list like “watch a sunset” or “spend a couple hours in a hammock” to make sure I reserve some time to chill. What are your fun to-do list items?

We are so excited to welcome our new wellness counselor, Patty Long-Brohm to the team! She’ll be starting in September, and will have an open schedule, so if you’re new to counseling services, please do look on her calendar for your first appointment. You can read more about Patty in her bio here!

We’ve learned that we move at different paces (all normal!) with our comfort levels during this phase of the pandemic, and in this issue, there are both in-person and virtual entertainment options, so you can pick and choose what suits you best!

We are so thrilled to welcome Patty Long-Brohm to the GME Wellness Team! She comes with more than 2 decades of experience and training and will be a wonderful addition to our counseling staff. Look for Patty’s schedule to open on Schedulicity in mid-September. She says: “Hello! I’m thrilled to be joining the GME Wellness team! I’m grateful for the opportunity to help support the UW medical residents, fellows, and their partners during this challenging and rewarding time in their careers.” Read more of Patty’s Bio here!

Boating on Lake Union!

As a “Captain” myself, I can tell you that the boats were utterly impossible to steer straight, which made our boating event all the more fun! We will definitely bring this one back, and be on the look out for some fall events coming your way as well! More pictures here!

Mindfulness Minute

  • One of the most challenging things about medical training is the lack of time beyond work demands. I hope the long hours will go out of style, but in the meantime, it’s all the more important to make your moments count, and that means bringing mindful awareness to how you spend time and energy. With the A-Tracker app, you can see just where it’s going and set goals for the future. Just like budgeting your money, but for minutes instead! Thanks Aaron Wishnick for this great discovery!
