FlowersDear Wellness Community,

August is here! (So is our Wellness Corner after a short break.) Seattle is in the full swing of summer with blue skies, warm, sunny days, views of the Mountain and flowers blooming around you. We welcome our new Residents and Fellows to UW. What a time to start a new training program!

You may feel a bit unsettled with the unusualness of this time. Most people are feeling a sense of uncertainty with the ongoing pandemic. As physicians and the front line of health care, this time may bring a multitude of complex feelings: you are taking in new information and doing important work every day, but you may feel you are missing out on social interactions like just hanging out or going to the movies with friends, meeting new people, and exploring Seattle and all it has to offer.

Most of us crave connection and long for some normalcy to return. How do we continue to grow and learn while feeling a sense of loss? You may look for the quiet after the busyness at your work. Find ways to create meaning for you in the way that seems right. We are here to share some fun happenings around town including drive-in movies, farm visits, parks, fruit picking, and chances for you to find some quiet time.

Diversity Recruitment Open House

We are delighted to announce that the Network for Underrepresented Residents and Fellows (NURF) will host a Diversity Recruitment Open House as part of NURF’s outreach efforts this recruitment season.  The Diversity Recruitment Open House is scheduled on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020, from 6:30pm – 8:00pm, via Zoom.

This virtual Open House is intended to answer questions for medical students and residents from underrepresented and/or disadvantaged backgrounds who are currently applying to programs at the University of Washington. Panel members will discuss specific actions UW Medicine is taking to strengthen our culture of anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion and the resources available for housestaff support.
