CBA4 Updates and Important Information

The following is a non-inclusive summary of contents and changes in CBA4. Please read the contract for full contents.

Duration: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028

 

Financial Benefits

Article 3: Childcare Fund

  • Increases to $95k at ratification
  • Increases to $100k in AY28

Article 6: Meals

  • Increases to $14/meal on February 1, 2026

Article 21: Professional Development Fund

  • Reimbursement: $450/year; rollover increases to $2000
  • Allowance: $500/year
  • Effective July 1, 2026

Article 22: Compensation

Salary

  • January 1, 2026: salary rates recalibrated upon implementation
  • July 1, 2026: 3% increase
  • July 1, 2027: 3% increase
  • July 1, 2028: 3% increase

Allowance

  • January 1, 2026: increases to $10,000/year
  • July 1, 2026: increases to $11,000/year
  • July 1, 2027: increases to $12,000/year
  • July 1, 2028: increases to $13,000/year

Relocation

  • New $1,000 relocation (“first year allowance”) for all incoming R1s only

Important Information: 

  • This is only applicable to incoming R1s. If your program’s entering class is not at an R1 level (ex: entering R2s, UW residents moving to UW fellowship, etc.) those trainees are not in scope
  • Incoming R1s will receive this allowance regardless of whether / how far they are moving between medical school and residency
  • Cost will be allocated to sites via the daily rate

Chief Resident/Fellow Supplement

  • July 1, 2026: increases to $250/month
  • July 1, 2027: increases to $275/month

MOU Lump Sum Payment

Within 90 days of ratification, trainees will receive a lump sum payment as follows (expected payment February 2026):

  • $500 lump sum payment for each R1 Resident
  • $1,000 lump sum payment for each R2, R3, and R4 Resident
  • $1,500 lump sum payment for each R5, R6, R7, R8, and R9 Resident

In order to be eligible to receive the lump sum payment, an employee must be in pay status in the pay period associated with the distribution.

  • Union access to trainees who miss GME New Resident and Fellow Orientation

Article 7: Grievance Process

  • Grievance Committee process replaced by PERC mediation

Article 24: Transportation

  • Free weekend parking begins Fridays at 4pm (previously Saturdays at midnight)

Article 25: Union Business

  • Outlines process for trainees to attend union functions or programs
  • Residents may use time off consistent with their program leave policy to attend Union functions or programs (meetings, conventions, seminars, or other) pending supervisory approval, which will not be reasonably denied

Article 26: Duration

  • January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028
  • CBA5 bargaining begins fall 2028

Article 27: Scheduling

  • Increase from 3 to 5 days

Article 13: Pregnancy Leave

  • Requested through DSO (PD optional)

Article 15: Sick

  • Definition of family member expanded
  • Sick time off usage expanded to include preparations for or participation in any judicial or administrative immigration proceeding involving the employee or employee’s family member

Article 16: Vacation

  • Requests will not be unreasonably denied
