Description: Residents on the neurology elective participate actively on the inpatient ward service with an option to spend time on the neurocritical care consult service, if desired. Time in outpatient clinic may also be arranged. Residents will be asked to see and present new consults and to follow patients over time. Teaching occurs informally on rounds and in the team room as well as weekly in departmental conference. Learning goals for the elective include increased familiarity with the neurologic examination, the use of and interpretation of neuroimaging, and the diagnosis and management of common neurologic conditions (e.g. seizures, neurocutaneous disorders, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy).
