Professional Development Days

Each resident has up to ten (10) professional development days per academic year. These are for the purpose of attending an academic conference, taking Step 3, participating in educational activities outside of our program, to serve on committees of professional organizations, or for professional interviews (jobs or fellowships).  These are contingent upon the resident finding coverage if applicable are case-by-case for inpatient/ICU rotations.  Professional development days may also be taken on WWAMI but must be discussed in advance with GME and are approved on a case-by-case basis. Residents should provide 60 days advanced notice for conference attendance or Step 3, and ideally 30 days for fellowship or job interviews (minimum 2 weeks).  The pediatric chief residents and GME strongly support resident attendance at conferences and will work closely with residents to help facilitate this. We will make every effort possible to facilitate attendance at job and fellowship interviews.

Paid Personal Holiday

One paid personal holiday may be taken each calendar year per the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

This day may be taken on the following rotations:

  • Elective
  • Adolescent Medicine
  • Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics
  • Community Practice

Requests should be submitted to the Pediatric Chief Residents (pedschiefs@seattlechildrens.org) a minimum of 30 days prior to the requested day. This day may not be taken when it would result in absence from clinical duties that would require back-up coverage.
