Winter Break Drop-In Hours

This is just a reminder that drop-in hours will be limited over winter break. The last day for drop-ins this year is tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18th, from 2-3pm. Drop-in hours will resume as usual on the first day of Winter quarter, January 6th. Please refer to the Undergrad Advising Calendar for the exact schedule.

Undergraduate Research Experience Opportunity

Participate in ongoing transportation, emissions and health research projects at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute – the largest university-based transportation research institute in the country.

Some topics to be covered include:

  • Transportation emissions and/or air quality modeling

  • Health impacts of alternative and emerging technologies

Transportation Engineering Internship Opportunities

Transportation Engineering NorthWest (TENW) is seeking engineers for their Summer 2020 internship positions in Bellevue, Washington. Students currently enrolled in a UW Engineering Program are invited to apply.

Expectations of Duties

They will manage multiple tasks working with teams and exhibit strong communication skills in technical writing. Project duties will include the following:

  • Planning – analyzing intersections, roadways, and parking demand; preparing traffic impact studies and conducting field reconnaissance to capture multi-modal conditions.
  • Design – preparing plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and permit applications for projects; assisting in construction administration duties including site visits, construction coordination meetings, and inspections.

UW ITE Kickoff 2019

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) UW student chapter is holding its Kickoff event in STARLab (More Hall 101) tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9th, at 12pm.

You’ll have the opportunity to meet other transportation focused students, get some free pizza, and learn about professional development opportunities through ITE. You’ll also learn about opportunities to get involved in ITE student leadership.

You’ll be joined by ITE Washington President, Claudia Hirschey, members of the ITE Washington section board Daniel Lai (City of Bellevue), Darcy Keenan (City of Bellevue), Manaswini Condoor (WSP) and Sarah Kennan (Fehr and Peers), who will discuss opportunities for students through the larger ITE state, regional and national organizations. This includes potential scholarships, conference travel stipends, and professional networking events.

Site and Shop Tour

SMACNA-Western Washington, a non-profit trade association representing some of Washington’s mechanical contractors, is hosting a “Site & Shop Tour” on Tuesday, November 19th. this is open to construction management, engineering, and business students. The tour will include:

  • MacDonald-Miller Jobsite tour of the new Rainier Square Tower in Downtown Seattle
  • McKinstry Fabrication Shop Tour
  • Happy Hour Networking event following the tours
