HDR $10,000 Graduate Student Scholarship – Water

I’ve reached out the last few years with a scholarship opportunity that is specifically accepting applicants from graduate students within the UW CEE program.

Similarly this year HDR will award two $10,000 scholarships for graduate level students, each including a paid internship. Applicants can be current undergraduates as long as they are graduate by spring 2022 and have a plan to attend graduate school the next year. The scholarship will give preference to applicants that show an interested in water, wastewater, drinking water, and water resource engineering.

HDR’s scholarship program selects only a handful of universities to accept applicants from. UW has been one of the few schools over the last four years.

Applications are due November 12th, 2021 and can be submitted here: https://www.hdrinc.com/water-scholarship

I’ve attached a flyer with more information that can be forwarded to students.

Very much appreciate your help in getting the word out to students so that we can get the best applicants from UW CEE! Feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Husky Satellite Lab Recruiting

Hello!

The Husky Satellite Lab, a student-run engineering club working on establishing a space presence for UW, is currently recruiting! Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary student participation in space systems research, to inspire and train future space scientists and engineers, and to advance spacecraft capabilities at UW. We are currently working on our second satellite mission, Husky Sat-2.

We invite you to join an information session and apply to the team!

We are recruiting for members both with and without experience. Even if you don’t have experience, part of our mission is to provide a space for students to learn through hands-on experience!

Information Sessions:
Sept. 28th, 5pm, room GUG 305
Oct. 1st, 5pm, room GUG 305

Applications to the team are open starting 9/28.

For more information or the application form, visit our website: huskysatellitelab.com

We look forward to meeting you! Please contact us at cubesat@uw.edu if you have any questions.

CEE Seniors – Apply to Graduate Now!

Hello CEE Seniors,

It is time to apply to graduate if you plan to complete your BSCE or BSENVE degree in AUT21, WIN22, SPR22, or SUM22!

Here are the steps we need you to complete:

  1. Please run a fresh degree audit (DARS) and carefully review your remaining requirements to ensure you are accounting for them all.  In your final quarter, your DARS needs to show that all requirements are either completed or in-progress.

If you have questions, please let us know.

  1. You will also need to update your MyPlan so that it reflects your plan for completing your degree. If you are unsure of the exact courses you will take, you can use placeholders similar to the sample 4 year plan on the BSCE /BSENVE degree sheets.

If you have taken courses outside of the UW, please be sure that the most up-to-date official transcript has been sent to the UW Admissions Office.

  1. After you review your DARS and update your MyPlan, you will need to complete this google form and we will submit your online graduation application for you. (The form will allow you to let us know of any irregularities or concerns.)

Once we’ve received your google form response, we will initiate your graduation application.

This process ensures that you will obtain Graduating Senior Priority Registration (GSP) for Winter Quarter (Nov 5, 2021) and Spring Quarter (Feb 11, 2022).

The deadline to complete our google form is Friday, October 8th, but the earlier you can submit it, the better!

We are so excited to welcome you back to campus!

-Brian, Charlotte and Lauren

UW Sustainable Transportation Innovation Challenge: Contest Submission Deadline October 1, 2021

University of Washington Sustainable Transportation Innovation Challenge

In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism announced the Climate Pledge, making the commitment to be net carbon neutral by 2040 – 10 years ahead of the Paris Climate Accord.

Amazon’s Sustainable Transportation Accelerator for Middle-Mile Program, or STAMP, is launching the UW Sustainable Transportation Innovation Challenge to elicit ideas related to middle-mile decarbonization. The middle mile of Amazon’s network begins when goods come into our network, mostly at ports, and ends when goods are assigned to a customer for delivery, and includes transportation by air, water, rail, or road.

STAMP is looking for new ideas related to 1) hardware or software technologies to reduce carbon emissions; 2) methods to reduce the cost of sustainable transportation while still providing fast delivery; and 3) partnerships with external organizations (businesses and/or non-profits) to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation.

Preliminary Details: For a complete set of the terms and conditions governing your participation in this Challenge, please refer to the Official Rules, pages 21-24

  • Full- and part-time, undergraduate and graduate students that are legal US residents of WA over age 18 are eligible to participate.
  • Students can submit their ideas here. All submissions must be in the PRFAQ format (see pages 4-6).
  • The Challenge will open September 3, 2021 at 12:00PM Pacific Time and close on October 1, 2021 at 11:59PM Pacific Time. Late entries will not be accepted.
  • Submissions will be reviewed by members of the relevant Amazon team.
  • Amazon will announce the winners on October 15, 2021 via email to all submitters. One person will be awarded $10,000 for the 1st place submission, one person will be awarded $5,000 for the 2nd place submission, and one person will be awarded $2,500 for the 3rd place submission.

Submissions Due: October 1st, 2021

Internship at Tower Engineering Company

Hello, we are interested in offering an engineering internship beginning between now and the end of-September for the new school year.  We would like to hear from this year’s classes of Seniors and Juniors who are engineering students who are interested in becoming a Structural Engineer.

We are in Mountlake Terrace, and we specialize in the telecommunications industry along with residential and industrial building work. We work on all types of TV, radio , and telecommunication towers all over the US for private and public clients. These towers range in height from 50 feet to 2000 feet. Our work in residential and industrial ranges from retrofit, mod work to design of new higher end homes, commercial buildings, and vineyard facilities. , learning how we analyze the towers, report writing, AutoCAD and learning about this unique type of work.  One of the main tasks is to assist in the goal of preserving the information on projects. Our goal is to provide our engineers with a well-rounded experience that will help them to become licensed Civil Engineers with the goal of becoming a Structural Engineer.   We also will need help in the repot production, assembling and getting the reports sent out.  There will be some work to assist accounting, helping with proposals, and working with the senior engineer to assist in engineering license renewal.

Please contact me below to set up an interview, email will be the best way.
