Recently, Dr. Pei Wang received a 3-year career development award from the American Heart Association to study regulation of mitochondrial calcium embryonic heart development. Congenital heart disease is one of the most common types of birth defects due to abnormal heart development. Little is known regarding the regulation and roles of mitochondrial calcium in congenital heart defect. Results of this project will provide new insights and targets for heart development and congenital heart disease.
