Description: Our Rehabilitation Medicine department serves the complex needs of children with a range of conditions that affect function. Common diagnoses encountered include: cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, concussion, neuromuscular disorders (ie muscular dystrophy, Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and brachial plexus injury. Goals for this elective may include: understanding options for tone management, recognizing when a child may benefit from a mobility device or other DME and better understanding of the functional implications of chronic illness. This clinical experience will span inpatient, outpatient and consults, and will be tailored to the resident’s goals.
