CEE Resources to help you plan your academic schedule

This is an informational note for all CEE majors, but it is especially important for seniors who intend to graduate this academic year, as you need to plan carefully for the remaining two quarters.

Please take particular care to check the courses you have placed in MyPlan as part of your graduation plan to ensure that they are actually offered in the quarters in which you plan to take them.  (MyPlan will allow you to place classes into any future quarter, even if they are not scheduled to be offered that quarter by the department.)

To make sure that CEE courses are offered in the quarters in which you wish to take them, please visit the CEE Course Planning Resources page.  Here you will find:

The CEE Department’s Projected Course Offerings for 2015-2016 which will show all CEE courses and the quarters in which they are projected to be offered and by whom. (The 2016-2017 Projected Course Offering schedule should be posted soon, likely in November.)  This is our internal working document and is subject to change, but it will give you a good preview as to the Department’s longer-term plans.

The Preliminary Time Schedule for future quarters provides a list of course to be offered for a particular quarter with the intended lecture and lab times.  Again, this is our working document and is subject to change, but we are sharing this with students so that you have a preview of what is being proposed before it becomes officially available on the UW online Time Schedule.  The CEE Preliminary Time Schedule is an important resource to help you plan ahead to avoid class conflicts.

The Projected Course Offerings and Preliminary Time Schedules are updated or posted as new information becomes, so check back periodically.   (For information on outside department courses, please contact that department.)

Here are some additional resources you may find helpful in planning your academic schedule.

Outreach/Networking Opportunity – Society of Women Engineers

Hello fellow engineers and scientists!

If you’re a female undergraduate or graduate student and all too familiar
with being in the minority, here is an opportunity to expand your network,
develop professionally, find support, and help change this for the next
generation! I’d like to introduce a great outreach opportunity through the
Society of Women Engineers.

Time to Invent is an outreach program run by graduate students and focused
on kindling a love of science and engineering in young girls . Once a month,
our mentors visit a local elementary school and lead 4th and 5th grade girls
through hands-on activities to encourage an interest in innovation and
science/engineering. While activities are typically led by the graduate
mentors, both undergraduate and graduate mentors are encouraged to
participate in the activities! Check out our website here:

WHY should you join?

New Funding for Study Abroad Scholarships

Increased funds for GO! We are thrilled to announce that beginning this academic year, the GO! Scholarship will have additional funding to support Washington State residents studying abroad on international exchanges!  This means increased opportunities for UW students to take part in the transformational experience of studying abroad at one of the UW’s many partner universities.

New this year *Plan2GO! Scholarship* Unlike many other scholarships which award funds for  specific study abroad programs to which students have already committed, receiving this award is like having financial credit waiting to be used for an exchange program.  Students will be eligible to apply as early as freshman year. If selected, students will have up to two years to plan for and be approved for UW Study Abroad Office Exchange.

What is an international exchange? This is a relationship between two or more partner universities, in which each university sends a certain number of its home students outbound to its partner abroad, and in return receives an equivalent number of inbound students.  For example, the UW might send three students to study at the National University of Singapore for Autumn Semester and in return, the UW hosts three NUS students in Seattle.

Stay tuned for updates about the Plan2GO! Scholarship—launching in Spring 2016!

Sincerely,

Emily Smith & Shannon Quinn
