About the Position: Reporting to the Flood Control Director, the Engineering Associate will provide engineering support for projects, planning activities, and other tasks as assigned. As a member of the engineering team, the position helps develop collaborative solutions for system improvements, agency improvements and special projects. MCDD is a small agency, such that the day to day work associated with this position will range from desktop to field tasks.

President Ana Mari Cauce invites UW students to join her for an evening focused on themes of race, equity, and difference as a part of the Race & Equity Initiative. This round table discussion will focus on the message of the accompanying Graduate School lecture, “What’s the difference with ‘difference’?” by Ralina Joseph, associate professor, UW Department of Communication, and director of the Center for Communication, Difference, and Equity. You are encouraged to attend the discussion with your friends and fellow students, with support from faculty and staff, and attend the full lecture directly afterward in Kane Hall.
Race and Equity Conversation for Students: Thursday, January 14th, 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House. Click Here to Register. Dinner will be served. Students will participate in small group discussion with faculty and staff facilitators.

There are 3 different types of workshops, as designated below:
- “Getting Started” Workshops: These workshops are short, 30 minute presentations on strategies for success in the job market. Come as you are. All workshops happen in MGH 134
- Labs: Ready to explore further or get some practice? Join us for Labs–interactive engaging workshops. Some labs are come as you are, others request that you bring some materials with you. All labs happen in MGH 134!
- Meetups: Get valuable feedback and advice (and build connections) from a Career Counselor and other students in one of our Career Meetups. Casual (but productive) conversations, just for UW undergraduates! To find your Meetup, look for the purple balloon in MGH Commons.

2016 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience at USC
We are pleased to announce the 2016 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. This REU program allows talented students completing their sophomore or junior year the opportunity to spend summer break working alongside USC’s world-class faculty on cutting-edge research in engineering and computer science.
Participants will gain valuable research experience and receive a stipend for living expenses in Los Angeles. Housing and transportation will also be provided.
Interested students are encouraged to visit the SURE webpage to review available research projects for 2016 and to start an application.
Applicants to the Summer Research program should be outstanding undergraduate students in engineering or computer science who are currently sophomore or junior standing and must be citizens or permanent residents of the US or Canadian citizens. The deadline to apply for SURE 2016 is February 3rd, 2016.

SEAW Scholarships!
It is time once again to announce the Structural Engineers Association of Washington (SEAW) Scholarship! This year, SEAW is offering $5,000 scholarships to current college or university students studying Structural Engineering and planning to make their professional career in the practice of Structural Engineering.
Requirements:
- Official resident of Washington State
- At the time of application, must be currently enrolled in a program of study majoring in Structural Engineering as a senior undergraduate or as a graduate student
- Having a commitment to making a professional career in the practice of Structural Engineering

- Have all documents submitted to the SEAW office by February 29th to be considered for the current year’s scholarship award

The Winter application cycle for Mary Gates Scholarships is now open! Mary Gates Scholarships are open to ALL students currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at UW.
