Bellevue DOT Intership

The City of Bellevue Transportation Department is looking to hire an intern in the Traffic Engineering division.They are trying to recruit an interested freshman/sophomore early/direct admit from the UW CEE program for this position, which will start in June. The intern will keep the position until they graduate (2-3 years). Hours worked are paid and flexible, but likely part-time (8-20 hours) during the school year with the option for full-time work during breaks. Starting wage is $14.61/hour.

The job covers a broad range of transportation engineering topics and practices, from signal operations and lighting design to construction plan drafting and bike facilities design. The intern will gain practical engineering experience and software not taught in classes. AutoCAD will be used extensively, along with other specialized traffic/lighting software and Office, but some training will be provided. Geotechnical Engineering Intern Position

Read on to learn about a summer/fall internship with Seattle DCI. They are hoping they can find an undergraduate with real interest in geotechnical engineering, as this will be a fun project to go through all the historic landslide files!

Position Description: The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections is seeking a junior or senior student to clean up the delineation of known slides in the existing Geographic Information System.  The intern will also (1) assist with the digitization of historical landslide files and (2) help complete the current ongoing project of steep slope delineation, if that project has not been completed by this summer.

Description: This course focuses on the integration of principles of ecosystem dynamics and resilience into planning and decision-making. It is structured in 4 modules:

  1. Theories of environmental plannin
  2. Methods of environmental assessment
  3. Scenarios and models of coupled human- natural systems
  4. Collaborative adaptive management and planning

Together these modules are used to frame and address critical transitions and resilience in urban ecosystems in the Puget Sound region. The course builds on complex systems theory and its application to coupled human-ecological systems. Students learn techniques for developing scenarios, building models, assessing resilience and devising management strategies. The course builds on a broad range of approaches including strategic environmental assessment, place-based, life cycle, and risk assessment, and adaptive collaborative planning.

Soil Conservationist Job Opening

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) helps America’s farmers and ranchers conserve the nation’s soil, water, air, and other natural resources. There is currently one vacancy in Avondale, Arizona, to serve as a Soil Conservationist performing a variety of duties which assist the District Conservationist in developing and carrying out a coordinated natural resources conservation program that is tailored to customers’ needs and meets USDA and NRCS requirements. The assignments involve applying conservation techniques common to the area; and preparing conservation plans for individual land units for which objectives are specific and conservation measures are known to be responsive to the physical land features of the area.

Internship with Clean Water Services

This position within Treatment Plant Services is an excellent opportunity to develop
engineering experience working for a nationally-recognized wastewater treatment facility in the public sector. The projects planned for this internship includes lab testing as well as plant sampling and data analysis. Assistance in the facility will include monitoring and evaluation of full-scale fermentation, monitoring of biological phosphorous removal process and evaluation of process instrumentation. Interns will work with engineering, operations, and maintenance to design, conduct and troubleshoot testing programs.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidates are current engineering students (civil, chemical, environmental engineering) with interest in wastewater treatment who are self-motivated and possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • They will also be capable of establishing effective working relationships with other employees and associates
  • Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of proper laboratory documentation methods and record keeping
