Summer Opportunity with Visiting Keio University Students

Interested in Japan, the environment, or teaching English? UW International & English Language Programs is looking for responsible, outgoing UW students to take part in a specialized environmental studies program for Keio University.

8-10 current UW students (or spring quarter graduates) at least 18 years of age or older and fluent in English are needed to serve as Peer Facilitators from August 8th to August 28th, 2016. The following roles are available:

  • Activity Leader Peer Facilitator:
    • Live in the dorms as a roommate and conversation partner (room and board and meal plan included)
    • Guide students around Seattle and lead social activities such as shopping, BBQs at the beach, attending a ball game, etc.
    • Hours: M-F evening + Sat/Sun all day 5-6 days/wk
    • Preferred qualifications: outgoing; interest/experience in international travel; strong English skills; knowledge of UW and Seattle; demonstrable leadership skills.
  • Classroom Peer Facilitator:
    • Help lead class discussions, field trips, and research projects
    • Work closely with program instructor and other Peers
    • Hours: M-F daytime 4-5 days/wk
    • Preferred qualifications: Interest/experience in teaching; leadership experience; background in either English, International Studies, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, or a related field. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Peer Team Leader (Activity Leader + Classroom Peer Facilitator):
    • Serve in both of the above roles
    • Hours: daytime and evening hours all week; 5-6 days/wk

The Keio program covers the cost of housing and meal cards for the selected Activity Leader Peers, and Classroom Peers may be eligible for UW course credit.

PNCWA Environmental Stewardship Scholarship

The Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA) currently has scholarships available for applicants intending to pursue a career in the water environment field. The applicant must enroll as a full time college student (by September of the award year) that allows them to pursue aPNCWA_lettermark_with_logo235-700_72.jpg professional career (e.g., engineer, operator, lab analyst) in the water environment field. Applicants may be attending or accepted to enroll in either a 2 or 4-year institution and be pursuing either Associates, Bachelors, and/or Master’s degrees. Award recipients also receive complimentary membership in PNCWA (www.pncwa.org) and WEF (www.wef.org) and are invited to attend the PNCWA Annual Conference in the fall of the year. Paid Internship with Greenroads International

Greenroads International has a paid fellowship position for this summer: 

  • Job Title: Greenroads Summer FellowWelcome to Greenroads
  • Compensation: $1500-$2000 per month, based on experience and academic standing
  • Location: Redmond, WA

Job Description: Greenroads Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization started from the University of Washington civil & Environmental Engineering department (www.greenroads.org), is offering a half-time teaching and research fellowship for 12 weeks. Start date is flexible, but anticipated to be no later than July 1, with end date no later than September 30. This unique opportunity will allow you to gain hands on experience behind the scenes at Greenroads. Their staff engages regularly with their clients, who represent a diverse variety of roles (design, construction, planning, and operations, for private and public sectors) in the transportation market around the world.

About the Hiring Process: The interview process includes a few screening steps: a written application packet, phone screen, and in-person one-on-one interview. Final candidates will be asked to prepare a presentation to deliver to staff on a topic you feel comfortable presenting. Interviews will take place on Friday, May 27 or Friday, June 3, or else by appointment only.

Summer Internship Opportunity with Wallis Engineering

Wallis Engineering in Vancouver, WA is looking for a summer intern. The position will be paid, with compensation depending on experience. They would prefer to hire an intern who is either a junior or a senior. 


Job Description: Wallis Engineering is looking for one civil engineering intern with strong collaboration skills for a full time temporary position during the summer break period. We seek a highly technical individual who will enjoy assisting project engineers on the planning, design, and construction engineering for public agency water, wastewater, and street projects. Field work may be required.
