Funding for Renewable Energy Projects!

Seattle City Light if offering up to $15,000 of matching funds for renewable energy projects funded through the CSF funding cycles. This means we have more capacity than ever to help students make sustainable change on-campus in the energy field.

The first application deadline through which students can access this funding is in December, but we want to get students thinking of ideas now.

Seattle City Light Funding Available for CSF Renewable Energy Projects

Interested in making sustainable changes on-campus in the energy field? Seattle City Light has an excellent opportunity for undergraduate, graduate, and PhD Civil and Environmental Engineering students interested in renewable energy projects.

Through the University of Washington and Seattle City Light’s continuing Green Up program partnership, up to $15,000 of matching funds will be available this fall for Campus Sustainability Fund projects focused on renewable energy installations or education components. Depending on the demand during the fall-winter CSF funding cycle, funding may also be available during the spring application cycle. This exciting agreement marks the first external funding grant for the CSF. To learn more about the program, check out their web article here.

Engineering Career Success Conference (Fall 2016)

Fall is prime recruiting season, and the Career Center @ Engineering (CC@E) is hosting its first Career Success Conference to prepare students for that important time. Seniors graduating in 2016-17 are invited to participate in a one-day intensive event with interactive workshops covering career essentials, such as resumes & interviews; also included is a networking lunch with local employers. Cost is $20 per person (light breakfast & lunch provided), and attendance will be limited to the first 100 attendees.

SEAW YMF Happy Hour with Cascadia GBC

Join the YMF for the first joint Happy Hour with the Seattle Collaborative of the Cascadia Green Building Council. This will be hosted by Skanska, who will discuss their involvement in Seattle’s Living Building Pilot Program and the future of the initiative. Snacks and Drinks will be provided. Overview:

Visual statements have always been an efficient means to speak about cities and influence urban decisions. Contemporary cities have grown extraordinarily complex and are analyzed through an increasing variety of social, economic and environmental data. New tools have been created to cope with the extraordinary availability of urban data, make sense of it and report it to citizens in a meaningful and appealing way. Interactive maps are changing city planning, and therefore having a grasp on how to critique and design them is an asset for anybody working in this field. Continue reading

ASCE & SEAW are holding their second annual joint golf tournament on Friday, August 5, 2016. the event will be held at Willows Run Golf Club on the Coyote Creek course. Bring your clients and colleagues for a fun afternoon of golfing, networking, and enjoying the beautiful summer weather!

Fall Quarter Innovation Courses

This fall, the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship is offering two innovation courses: the Environmental Innovation Practicum and the Health Innovation Practicum. You will hear fantastic leading-edge speakers, work on idea generation for changes that will make a difference in the environment or in healthcare, then roll up your sleeves and work on cross-disciplinary teams to figure out how to make your ideas a reality. These courses are for grads and undergrads from all majors.

Environmental Innovation Practicum

About: The goal of this Practicum is to help students discover how cleantech solutions are addressing pressing environmental issues, and learn how they can be part of those solutions. In this class you will:

  • Evaluate business opportunities in cleantech as outlined by guest speakers, required readings and world news.
  • Gain hands-on experience in developing business solution concepts addressing environmental challenges.

Location: Everett, WA

We are seeking a project structural engineer to join our structural group. Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field of study plus 4 to 12 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, with experience in the following:

  • Developing project proposals, budgets, estimates, and schedules.
  • Structural modeling, analysis, and design of civil engineering and construction projects using structural engineering principles, including static and dynamic behavior and stability of structures, and computer-assisted modeling, analysis, and design software.
  • Producing construction drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Design of military, healthcare, education, commercial, and civic facilities.
  • Completing seismic screenings, evaluations, rehabilitation, and upgrades using ASCE 31 and ASCE 41.
  • Construction administration during build phases.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington (Structural Engineer preferred).
