GRADUATION REMINDER: 2016 UW Commencement & CEE Celebration Registration Deadline!

The RSVP Deadline for the 2016 UW Commencement & CEE Celebration is Sunday, May 22nd (THIS SUNDAY).

Eligibility:

  • Students who graduated  Summer 2015, Autumn 2015, and Winter 2016 are eligible to walk in the UW Commencement and their names will appear in the Commencement bulletin.
  • Students who plan to graduate Spring 2016 are eligible to walk in the UW Commencement and their names will appear in the UW Commencement Bulletin if they submitted their master’s request or doctoral final exam request to the Graduate School by the April 15th deadline
  • Students who plan to graduate Summer 2016 are eligible to walk in the UW Commencement; however, their names will appear in next year’s UW Commencement Bulletin.

CEE Graduation Celebration:

Students who graduated Summer 2015, Autumn 2015, Winter 2016, or plan to graduate Spring 2016 or Summer 2016 may participate in the CEE Graduation Celebration. Spring and Summer graduates – by submitting our RSVP by the deadline, your name will appear in the CEE Graduation Program.

To participate in the CEE Graduation Celebration – Deadline to submit our online RSVP is May 22nd. Read the important information on our website, and submit your RSVP as soon as possible! Note: The CEE Graduation Celebration RSVP is separate from the UW Commencement @ Husky Stadium RSVP. If you want to participate in both, you must register/rsvp for both. 

Summer Internship Position with the City of Maple Valley

Envision gaining first-hand experience in stormwater and surface water management system inspection as a Temporary Surface Water Management Intern working with and learning from the City of Maple Valley’s seasoned SWM/NPDES Program Manager.  During the three month internship, the SWM Intern will actively support compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Requirements by:

  • assisting in performing stormwater inspections in both privately and publicly owned systems,
  • assisting in field data collection and research related to the City’s stormwater system, and
  • performing data entry of stormwater information into the maintenance management system.

Educational requirements: An Associates Degree in science or engineering (or a closely related field); or currently enrolled in college with two years completed; or equivalent education.  Some experience in environmental science, ecology, chemistry, hydrology, geology, civil engineering or a related field is preferred.

This is an FLSA non-exempt position. Salary Range: $15-$17 per hour.  Position Open Until Filled.

Internship Opportunity with JCM Northlink

JCM Northlink LLC, a contractor working on the Northgate to UW tunneling project, is looking for 2-3 interns to start on June 6- June 9th 2016. The announcement is below, act promptly if interested! 

Brian Hagen of JCM Northlink is looking for another batch of interns for the final tunnel stretch (it is possible that it will be the stretch that runs almost under More Hall to the UW Tower!) that will  conveniently happen this summer.

The intern position is titled as TUNNEL HEADING ENGINEER TECHNICIAN. The candidates are mainly responsible to be in the operator’s cabin of the tunnel boring machines and mainly record, report, and perform quality control on the progress of the tunneling operation. This is a great opportunity for UW students to learn the tunneling operation as one of the greatest infrastructure fields in civil engineering. This could potentially lead to a great job opportunity after graduation for the students within our company and/or tunneling industry.

The preferred candidate will be a senior or junior in CEE (with an interest in construction or geotechnical is a major plus).

The intern position is set to be for a 3 month in period (With a chance to be extended to 6 month). The interns will work 50 hour a week in either one of two shifts (6 am-4 pm or 4 pm- 2 am). The starting date is June 6th – June 9th 2016.
