LAST CALL: Construction Tour: I-405/NE 85th St. Interchange and Inline BRT Project

Hi,

There are a few spaces left on this construction tour that takes place Friday (read about it below). This week you can sign up for ANY spot (CEE, ENGR, CM) – no restrictions. Let’s fill up that bus.

Each year the Beavers, a heavy civil construction group, host a great tour of a really cool construction project. This year it is in Kirkland on the I-405/NE 85th St. interchange project. This is a $234 million project that will create a 3-level interchange with a unique mid-level multimodal hub for bus rapid transit, carpoolers, bike riders, pedestrians, and express lane users. This project is being built by Graham Contracting, who are also building a number of other projects in the area. The mid-level multimodal hub is really a cool concept (you can see it envisioned here).

What: Tour the I-405/NE 85th Street interchange project

When: Friday, October 18th, 2024 from 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Where: Kirkland, WA area

Why go: see a really interesting construction project and hear about it form those who are building it

If you sign up, and later decide you cannot go, PLEASE remove your name so someone else CAN go. 😊

REMINDER: CEE Career Fair is Wednesday, 10/16 from 1:30 – 4:30 in the HUB Ballroom

Students,

I am hoping you already know, but the CEE Career Fair is this Wednesday!

What: CEE Career Fair

When: Wednesday, October 16th, 2024 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Where: HUB Ballroom

Why go: Get a job, get an internship, meet people in industry

In the last few years, 30-50% of our internships were gotten via a career fair contact. There are so many jobs and internships available there that you really must go. Even if you think you are not qualified (you really are). Please take the time to prepare for this career fair and then just go and CRUSH IT. I cannot overemphasize how important it is to attend this career fair. There are 95+ companies that want access to YOU. Give them what they want and get what you want.

Steve’s pick-to-click companies: I like them all! But, if you don’t know where to start, check these out…

  • Environmental: Anchor QEA. Lots of great restoration work in the PNW. One of their principals is a hard-core skater (and super engineer).
  • Everything civil: Coughlin Porter Lundeen. They have been hiring our graduates for years. No wonder they’re so good!
  • Transportation: Perteet. I used to work there. Last century. They hire our grads all the time.
  • Construction: Skanska, Hamilton, Goodfellow Bros. (they work in Hawaii too!), Graham Contracting, Granite, Kiewit, Keller North America, Walsh.
  • Water: RH2. They hire environmentals and civils from UW. Some of our best have gone here. Continue reading
