Innovation to advance the management, development, and protection of water in the Western United States

Chris Frans,

Bureau of Reclamation, R&D Office

The mission of the Bureau of Reclamation is to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public. As Reclamation carries out its mission, it encounters a variety of scientific and technical challenges that require innovation. The Bureau of Reclamation Research and Development (R&D) Office administers a range of programs to invest in such innovation, helping to advance Reclamation’s technical abilities and address the full range of technical challenges confronting Reclamation water and power managers and their stakeholders. By fostering collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, and other government agencies, the R&D programs aim to develop and operationalize practical solutions that enhance the sustainability and resilience of the nation’s water infrastructure. This presentation will provide an overview of R&D programs at the Bureau of Reclamation and provide examples of recent research activities supporting water availability forecasting and climate resilience applications in the Western United States.

LAST REMINDER: CONSTRUCTION SCHOLARSHIPS: Beavers and Clark Construction Group Scholarships announcement – applications due November 8th

Hi all,

My last reminder to you that there are $15,000 worth of construction-related scholarships to be given out soon. Applications to these scholarships are due this Friday (November 8th). I see several “partial” applications, which means to me that they were started but not quite finished. Get those applications in. This is real money for you.

See details and application link below. ⬇️

I am writing to let everyone know that there is a great scholarship opportunity for students interested in and involved with construction engineering. There are scholarships from the Beavers Charitable Trust and the Clark Construction Group available for award. The awards will be TWO $5,000 cash scholarships from the Beavers and TWO $2,500 cash scholarships from Clark. Awards will be given in November. Here are the application particulars:

 REQUIREMENTS

  • The applicant must have completed an internship (or have an ongoing one) with a construction company. This is the big requirement – it does limit the applicant pool quite a bit. I am aware of a number of students who meet this requirement (e.g., Clark, Flatiron, Granite, Stacy and Witbeck, Kiewit, Skanska, Walsh, Sellen, Mortenson, and more). If you have had a construction company internship, we will find you and get you to enter…so do it voluntarily first. 😉
  • The applicant must be in good academic standing. This means not on academic probation and no history of academic misconduct.
  • The applicant must fill out an application (shocking) here: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8067529/2024-Beavers-Charitable-Trust-and-Clark-Construction-Group-Scholarships. This application involves you writing 1 page on your intern experience. So, it takes a bit of time to complete.

DUE DATE: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH, 11:59 P.M. Continue reading
