CEE Advising Update: Canvas Status

Hello,

Are you may be aware, our CEE Undergraduate Resources Canvas page was deleted earlier this week as part of UW IT’s new Canvas Course Data Retention Policy.

This took us by surprise and we are working to get it back up online and should be ready to go on Monday, Feb 5th.

As you prepare for SPR24 registration, please make sure you are using the resources on the Current Undergraduate Student Resources page (degree requirements, recommended coursework for seniors, projected course lists, degree sheets, etc.).

We are planning to post a full SPR24 registration overview early next week, once the Canvas page is back up and running.

Thank you!

Update Lab Schedule- CEE 367 in Spring 2024

Hello all,

We wanted to inform you of a recent update regarding the scheduling CEE367 Geotechnical Engineering for the upcoming Spring 2024.

We have adjusted the timing for one of the lab sessions for CEE367. The new lab schedule will be T 130-320 and W 1030-1220. We believe this modification will allow you to enroll in CEE367 without overlapping with other required courses.

If you have any questions regarding this time change or any other matter related to your academic schedule, please feel free to reach out to us.

Thank you!

** This email is for all ENV E juniors! ** It was recently brought to our attention that CEE 356: Quantitative and Conceptual Tools for Sustainability conflicted with AA 260: Thermodynamics, which many of you still need to take, in Spring 2024. To get around this conflict, we’ve moved the time for CEE 356 to MW 1:30-3:20. The new time should allow you to take CEE 356 without overlapping with other required courses. If you have any questions or concerns about this time change, please let us know.

Engineering Academic Success Coaching for Winter 2024

Hello Engineering Students,

Hope that your winter term is going well so far!  I’m writing to you about a resource for supporting engineering undergraduate students: two Engineering Academic Success Coaches (ASCs) working within the College of Engineering’s Engineering Academic Center. This is an academic year partnership with UW Academic Support Programs, and we are extremely fortunate to have Engineering ASCs Francisco and Toni as part of the team.

Engineering ASCs are able to assist other engineering undergraduates with academic success strategies, including:

  • Effective note taking and study techniques
  • Time management
  • Goal setting
  • Recovering from a difficult assessment

Each coaching session is a 1 on 1 appointment for 30 minutes, either in person, or virtually.  The focus is on meeting students where they are in order to highlight achievable action steps. You can use one of the bulleted links below to schedule an appointment with Francisco or Toni. Continue reading

URGENT: CEE 477 Open-Channel Flow will not be offered in WIN24

CEE Seniors –

We apologize for the  late notice but CEE 477  OPEN-CHANNEL FLOW (11886) will most likely not be offered in Winter 2024.

For the time being, you should register for a different class to satisfy the same requirement in WIN24.

Core material from CEE477 will be added to CEE 474 Hydraulics of Sediment Transport in spring SPR24 so that students get exposure to fundamentals in Open Channel Flow.

Other Hydro Tech Electives offered in WIN24 that will satisfy degree requirements in the same way as CEE 477:

In the case that we do decide to offer the course, we will be opening it up at a later date and will let you know asap.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

CIVE Seniors: Apply now for Richard Wiebe’s Boeing Industry Capstone in Structural Mechanics

Hello CIVE Seniors –

CEE Professor Richard Wiebe is running his Boeing Industry Capstone across WIN24 and SPR24.

Details about the capstone opportunity and how to apply can be found below and on the attached flyer.

The priority deadline to apply is this Friday, Oct 27th by 3pm PST.

-Brian & Lauren

The flyer for the industry capstone project is attached. Unfortunately, I am still waiting on a few more details, but in summary, this is a structural mechanics capstone, with an emphasis on composites which are of great importance in the aerospace structures world. If this sounds like an interesting option to you, please apply for the project by emailing the following to rwiebe@uw.edu:

(1) A one-page statement of interest. This should highlight your interest, and any experience you may have in aerospace structures.

(2) A copy of your unofficial transcript, which should show the structures classes (and any other classes such as CAD) that you have taken. There are no strict pre-requisites beyond our standard structures classes in CEE, but preferentially we will have team members with a range of expertise. Continue reading
