ATTN: CEE Seniors – Apply to Graduate Now!

Hi CEE Seniors,

If you plan to complete your degree between AUT22 and SUM23, remember to apply to graduate if you haven’t already done so! Additionally, if you have friends who are seniors in our department, remind them to complete this process too. Instructions below:

  1. Run a fresh degree audit (DARS) and carefully review your remaining requirements. Make sure your course plan includes all of them. In your final quarter, your degree audit needs to show that all requirements are either completed or in-progress.
  2. Update your MyPlan so that it reflects your course plan through your intended graduation quarter. If you’re unsure of the specific courses you’ll take, you may use placeholders. Ex: “Technical elective” or “5 credit VLPA course”.
  3. Once you’ve run a fresh audit and updated your MyPlan, complete this google form [forms.gle] and we’ll submit your graduation application to the UW Registrar. This form also allows you to explain any irregularities in your plan and ask any questions you may have. After submitting the form, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us (no action required) and a confirmation email from the UW Registrar. The email from the registrar will have action items for you, so please watch for it and complete the steps as soon as possible once you receive it.

Canvas Page is Up!

Hi CEE Students,

You should all have been added to the CEE Undergraduate Advising Resources Canvas Page – please take a look and let us know if you have any questions! We’ll be posting weekly announcements there as well as using the page to document advising FAQs and processes.

If you have questions, let us know.

Welcome to Autumn 2022!

Hello CEE students,

Happy first day of the quarter from your advisors, Brian Kinnear (he/him) and Lauren Cushner (she/her)! We are excited to work with you this year and welcome everyone back to campus.

We’re available for 30-minute one-on-one advising appointments and offer drop-in hours 2 days a week for quicker or more time sensitive questions. Our drop-in hours this quarter are Tuesday and Wednesday from 11am – 12pm. You will always be able to find these hours/appointment slots on our advising page as well as in our email signatures. If you do not see a time that works for you, please send us an email at ceadvice@uw.edu with your availability and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

This year, we are introducing a CEE Undergraduate Advising canvas page as a way to make advising announcements and document important processes and FAQs. We’ll be publishing the page and adding you all as members by the end of the week! Once the page is up and running, we’ll let you know. Be sure to check it out for more details once that happens! This year, our weekly “emails” will be canvas announcements. Weekly announcements will be posted on Wednesdays.

Undergraduate TA or Graduate Grader need for CEE 337: Construction Materials

Dear CEE Students,

Professor Laura Lowes is seeking a 20-hr per week undergraduate teaching assistant or graduate student grader for the junior-level CEE 337 Construction Materials class this fall (9/26 – 12/16). The course provides an introduction to the behavior of common civil engineering materials including concrete, asphalt, steel, aluminum and wood via lectures and laboratory sections in which students mix concrete, cast concrete cylinders and beams, and conduct common material tests of concrete, steel, aluminum and wood samples to determine material properties used in design and construction. A graduate student grader for this class will be required to grade various student productions (e.g., homework assignments, lab reports and quizzes) as well as provide additional support for the class as needed (e.g., creating online quizzes). An undergraduate teaching assistant for this class will be required to support the activities listed above as well as support the CEE materials lab manager and CEE 337 graduate teaching assistant in teaching the material lab sections on Thursdays of each week. While the scope of activities is larger for the undergraduate teaching assistant, no more than 20 hrs per week of work will be required. The hourly rate for these positions has been established by the UW at  $17.79/hr for undergraduate students and $21.49/hr for graduate students. Continue reading
