In collaboration with DSHS – Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR), the purpose of this research is to document rates of marijuana, alcohol and other substance use among emerging adults in Washington State. Phase 1 of this research documents baseline rates of substance use, and attitudes toward alcohol and marijuana use. Phase 2 of this research uses a mixed panel-longitudinal design, allowing us to compare across within the same cohort longitudinally 12 months after the first assessment, and to collecting a new cohort to make between-cohort comparisons – collectively, this allows us to assess changes in substance use and attitudes among emerging adults. An additional Phase 3 was introduced to further assess changes in substance use and attitudes among emerging adults over two years after the launch of Phase 1, again providing the opportunity for within cohort and between cohort comparisons as we consider the impact of marijuana legalization on this group of young adults in our state.
