Main Campus Information Sessions for FHL Courses (Flyers Attached)

Hi all! 

I am the academic services manager at Friday Harbor Labs (FHL), and I’ll be in town next week!  I will be on the Seattle Campus on Monday, Oct. 23, Tuesday, Oct. 24, and the morning of Thursday, Oct. 26.   Pema Kitaeff, the Friday Harbor Labs Dive Safety Officer, will also be joining the Tuesday Information Session to talk about SCUBA/snorkel research options for students at FHL, such as the course we are offering this summer focusing on subtidal fieldwork and research!

Courses at FHL are a great way to learn research techniques, gain fieldwork skills, and learn from knowledgeable and experienced instructors in a hands-on, small classroom environment. We have course offerings this upcoming spring term geared towards students at various stages of their studies, from introductory biology courses for those early in their academic careers to advanced upper division courses for students approaching graduation.

Academic programs being taught spring 2024 and summer 2024 include:

STEM Pals Interest Meeting on 10/10

Are you interested in getting involved with STEM outreach? STEM Pals is a team of UW students, postdocs, and faculty doing outreach for K-12 students in underserved communities. Our goal is to increase high school engagement in STEM via interactive activities, mentorship, and resource-sharing. We are currently seeking new volunteers and leaders for the 2023-2024 school year. No prior experience is needed! Your commitment can be dynamic, and you will have complete agency over which events you volunteer for and what responsibilities you take on. If you are interested in learning more about us, please join our Slack workspace. We will also be holding a new member interest and information meeting on October 10th at 5:30pm in MolES 215.
