Hi CEE majors, 

A final reminder to please RSVP for next week’s faculty mentoring sessions (Tuesday, April 23 and/or Wednesday, April 24) if you haven’t already done so.

If you are completing your Junior year in SPR24 and plan to graduate in the 24-25 academic year, it is mandatory that you attend at least one of next week’s CEE Faculty Mentoring Sessions (T, 4/23 and W, 4/24).

Please RSVP at your earliest convenience so we can ensure we have enough food for those in attendance. RSVP HERE!

2024 APWA Scholarships open ($10,000 and $5,000)

On behalf of the Washington Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA), we’d like to get the word out regarding our 2024 scholarships! We had two winners from the UW CEE program last year. 

Attached is our 2024 scholarship application. This $10,000 and $5,000 scholarship will be presented to a student who is interested in a career in public works and is both a current resident of Washington State full-time standing as of Fall 2024. The scholarship applications are due June 17, 2024.

APWA provides training, support, advocacy, and networking for public works agencies and design professionals across the state of Washington. Wildlands Studies – Experience the Planet

Hello CEE community!

There is a study abroad opportunity hosted by Wildlands Studies for any interested CivE or EnvE students. This organization facilitates field studies for students interested in finding solutions to environmental challenges. Some programs offered include marine ecology, rainforest ecology, mountain ecology, and mixed ecosystems. 

The upcoming student information session will be on Tuesday (4/23) at 4 pm in Winkenwerder room 107.

ANNOUNCEMENT: FIELD STUDY OPPORTUNITIES!

Wildlands Studies field programs provide students the opportunity to join backcountry study teams as working field associates, studying environmental impact assessment, environmental policy, geologic, climatic, and topographic factors that support various habitats, and the relationships between environments and culture. Each program earns 5 or 15 units of upper-division credit! FAFSA Financial Aid and scholarships can apply towards funding our programs. Program teams consist of 10-16 undergraduates from all over North America. Students can choose different wildlife, wildland, and cultural ecology field studies locations that are all searching for solutions to environmental challenges. UW Undergraduate Climate Justice Event – April 25

We are excited to share a new event for UW undergraduate students to connect across areas of study, campuses and communities on critical climate justice issues. The event is hosted by EarthLab, a UW institute taking equitable action on climate change. 

 

The “EarthLab Climate Justice Conversations and Connections” is an inclusive gathering focused on climate justice and community building. Across the University of Washington, students actively engage in vital discussions about climate change and its profound implications for social justice. This free event is a platform for grassroots conversations to build a stronger and more connected climate community, where student voices take center stage. There are three campuses, countless RSOs and groups and individuals all working and learning separately. What could we accomplish if we came together?

EarthLab Climate Justice Conversations Event April 25

City Nature Challenge & Graduate School Panel- presented by UW Program on Climate Change

Join the Program on Climate Change Undergraduate Cohort for a dual event on April 29th— the City Nature Challenge & Graduate School Panel.

This Earth Month, the Program on Climate Change (PCC) and UW Biology experts are excited to bring the global City Nature Challenge to the UW on Monday, April 29th, 11:00am-1:00pm! Contribute to a worldwide citizen science initiative by documenting wild flora and fauna on iNaturalist and explore the rich biodiversity of our campus. We will start at the UW Biology Greenhouse with short presentations on climate change and biodiversity and then go on our 1.5 hour outdoor walk. Please ensure you are dressed suitably for the weather conditions and contact Hema at hema89@uw.edu with any questions.
