Survey Day

Dear CEE Community,

Today is the CEE Climate Survey Day. Please take about ten minutes to fill it out:

CEE Climate Survey

You will need to be logged in with your UW NetID, but the survey is anonymous and NetIDs will not be connected to your responses. The survey will help us develop actionable strategies and to monitor our progress toward a stronger and more supportive CEE community. We want everyone’s input for this!

SASE UW Industry Networking Night

Hello,

The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers at UW is holding our annual Industry Networking night this coming Tuesday, February 20th. More information is included below.

The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) at the University of Washington would like to invite you to our Industry Networking Night, our flagship event of the year. We are a diverse and inclusive student organization at the UW with a mission to promote fellowship among UW Asian heritage science and engineering students and professionals.

Industry Networking Night will be an in-person event taking place on the University of Washington campus. We aim to gather industry professionals and representatives from 6-8 different companies, allowing students to ask questions to industry members, learn about different industry experiences, and connect and network with a variety of companies. Last year’s industry members were from Google, Blue Origin, Meta, Apple, Amazon, and more!

The event is planned for Tuesday, February 20th, with a running time from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the University of Washington’s Nanoengineering Building room 181. Join us for this exciting opportunity to expand your circle, share ideas, and discover opportunities. Don’t miss out on this chance to build your professional network! Refreshments will be provided.

CEE Water/Environmental Seminar this Thursday, February 15 at 3:30 in More Hall 225

Hi CEE community,

Please join us this Thursday, February 15 at 3:30 in More Hall room 225 for this week’s water seminar where the dynamic duo of CEE PhD candidates Sanchit Minocha and Sarath Suresh will present on the newest version of the Reservoir Assessment Tool (RAT) which uses satellite remote sensing to track reservoir changes around the world. See the abstract for their talk below:

Lowering the barrier for satellite-based reservoir tracking to improve reservoir management in the developing world

As dams continue to proliferate in the developing world, monitoring water availability influenced by reservoir operations is now of paramount importance. The Reservoir Assessment Tool (RAT) is a data-driven python package that integrates satellite remote sensing with hydrological models, enabling the estimation of key reservoir parameters such as inflow, outflow, surface area, evaporation and storage changes. Recognizing the need for scalability and to lower the barrier of entry to mobilize the water Continue reading

Connecting with Skagit County – A thank you and more positions on the way

Hi all,

Weed control position for the jobs board. Seems appropriate for interns and full-time, but I suspect internships are the match here. I don’t write ‘em, I just pass them along. 😉

– Steve Muench

I’ll leave a link to our Noxious Weed Aide positions here: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/skagitwa/jobs/4380188/seasonal-noxious-weed-aide. I also have a Handshake page for our Skagit County Noxious Weed Board, if that’s an easier way to share information. These are seasonal, full-time positions, mainly focused on surveying and controlling noxious weeds in our estuaries/salt marshes and rivers/riparian areas. We can be flexible on start/end dates, since these are great opportunities for current or graduating students.
