Elentra Cloud

As a requirement of a LCME accreditation standard, a medical school is required to have a local curriculum database tool that supports central curriculum monitoring and management for the school.  In 2015, the School of Medicine implemented the curriculum management system, Opal QM, during the time of the curriculum renewal.

Last year, a major review  of learning technologies at the University of Washington School of Medicine was completed with findings that the overall functionality, in particular, the curricular searching, reporting and mapping functionality  of Opal QM has not been effective or user-friendly to meet the needs of the school.  As a result of this feedback from UW SOM students, staff and faculty, key members of the Curriculum, Academic and Learning Technologies (SOMALT), Evaluation and Assessment, and the Dean of Medicine  IT (DOMIT) team sought to find a replacement of OpalQM by going through a rigorous selection process in which several AAMC Curriculum Inventory approved vendors were reviewed and evaluated.

The UW School of Medicine Curriculum is excited to launch Elentra Cloud as the new Curriculum Management System starting in the new academic year in August 2020.  Elentra Cloud is a multi-modular cloud-based learning platform developed by Queen’s University School of Medicine based in Kingston, Ontario in Canada.  Elentra is also used by several other medical schools and health systems throughout the country and world.  The system will continue to provide curricular calendaring purposes for students and faculty and in addition, provide a more robust functionality of curriculum tag sets that will allow for improved curricular searching, mapping, and reporting. Elentra Cloud will be managed mainly by the Curriculum Management Systems Manager with additional support from SOMALT.  This page will be updated after Elentra has been set up.

Opal QM will be retired as of July 1, 2020 as we prepare for the launch of Elentra for the start of the new academic year in August 2020  During this transition, the UW School of Medicine curriculum framework will be set up in Elentra, historical curricular data will be migrated and new curricular data for the upcoming academic year will be entered. In addition, there will be a series of live and recorded trainings, demonstrations, and instruction manuals planned in the coming months to help get the UW SOM community better acquainted and familiar with the system.  OpalQM will no longer be able to be accessed as of July 1, 2020 so if you have an Opal calendar subscribed to a personal calendar or device, you can go ahead and remove the subscribed Opal calendar.  We will be working on restoring the current and historical curriculum data into the new system.  Lastly, the somopal@uw.edu email address will also be retired and a new email account for the system will now be utilized –  somcms@uw.edu.

We are excited to be working with the Elentra Cloud team! Additional details and training will be coming in the coming weeks, but if you have any immediate questions, feel free to email the Curriculum Management Systems Manager at  somcms@uw.edu.
