Lecture Capture

What is it?

Lecture capture is an excellent option to review material presented in a lecture you attended, or to catch up on material missed because of an absence.

Lectures and special events in Seattle are recorded to allow students to review previous class sessions. Sometimes, teachers will also pre-record presentations. Recordings include audio, and slides. The recordings are accessible in the Mediasite or Panopto systems at the links below.

What do I need to know or do?

Mediasite Recordings

All classroom sessions are automatically recorded and are posted to the course website no later than 24 hours after the end of the session unless it is indicated by the instructor that the recording should not be made available. Recordings have a 24 hour turnaround time from the time the recording ends, Friday lectures may take 48 hours.

Generally, we provide two versions of the recordings that are accessible from the course or clerkship website:

  • Synchronized instructor and presentation. As the video plays, full motion output of the presenter’s screen is displayed and synchronized with the video.

You can navigate the synchronized content by either the presenter screen output or the corresponding video segment, and you can speed up or slow down the playback. This option is only available via streaming video so you will need an active Internet connection to play the video.

  • Audio-Only Podcast. A podcast of the presentation audio allows you to have the lectures delivered automatically to your laptop or mobile device. (Link to sample)

Whenever possible, we schedule Mediasite server maintenance and upgrades on Wednesdays between 5:00am and 7:00am Pacific Time. Mobile Device Playback

When you access a video on a tablet device, it will behave similarly to viewing the recording on a computer.

When you access a video on a smartphone or hand-held device, it opens the video in the Mediasite app, which is available from the iTunes App Store or Google Play Marketplace.

Live streaming video (sometimes used for special events) is not available via mobile devices.
